TANDOORI PRAWNS RECIPE

5/5

Tandoori Prawns are a flavorful and delicious dish made by marinating prawns in a mixture of spices, yogurt, and lemon juice, and then grilling or baking them to perfection. This recipe is a healthier version of the traditional tandoori prawns, as they are cooked without excessive oil or butter. Prawns are a good source of protein and low in calories, making them a suitable choice for Indian weight loss diets.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 grams (1 pound) large prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons tandoori masala powder
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a bowl, mix together the tandoori masala powder, yogurt, lemon juice, ginger paste, garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, and oil to make a marinade.

  2. Add the prawns to the marinade and mix well, ensuring that each prawn is coated with the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate for a few hours for better flavor.

  3. Preheat the grill or oven to medium-high heat.

  4. If using a grill, thread the marinated prawns onto skewers. If using an oven, place the prawns on a greased baking tray.

  5. Grill or bake the prawns for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and slightly charred.

  6. Remove the prawns from the grill or oven and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

  7. Serve the tandoori prawns hot with lemon wedges on the side.

TIPS

  1. Use fresh, high-quality prawns for the best flavor and texture.
  2. Adjust the spice levels according to your preference. You can increase or decrease the amount of red chili powder in the marinade.
  3. If you don’t have tandoori masala powder, you can make your own by combining spices like cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, and garam masala.
  4. If you’re using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 30 minutes before using to prevent them from burning on the grill.
  5. If you prefer a smoky flavor, you can add a few drops of liquid smoke to the marinade.
  6. Serve the tandoori prawns with a side of mint chutney or yogurt raita to complement the flavors.
  7. For a complete meal, pair the tandoori prawns with a fresh salad or steamed vegetables.
  8. Experiment with different marinade variations by adding spices like fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi) or chaat masala for additional flavor.
  9. Avoid overcooking the prawns to maintain their tenderness and juiciness.
  10. Enjoy the tandoori prawns as a delicious appetizer or as a part of a balanced meal.
