Stir-Fried Tofu with Bok Choy
Stir-Fried Tofu with Bok Choy is a quick and satisfying dish that brings together the delicate flavors of tofu and the refreshing crunch of bok choy. The tofu’s crispiness contrasts with the tender bok choy, and the flavorful marinade ties the dish together with a hint of umami and sesame essence.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 2-3 bunches bok choy, washed and chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
- Sliced green onions for garnish (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil to create the marinade. Set aside.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Add the cubed tofu to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes, flipping occasionally, until the tofu is golden and crispy on the outside. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add minced garlic, minced ginger, and red pepper flakes. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the chopped bok choy to the skillet. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, allowing the bok choy to wilt slightly but remain crisp.
Return the cooked tofu to the skillet with the bok choy.
Pour the prepared marinade over the tofu and bok choy. Toss everything together to coat evenly. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to heat through.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Assembling the Dish:
Transfer the Stir-Fried Tofu with Bok Choy to a serving dish.
Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for added flavor and visual appeal.
TIPS
If you prefer a saucier dish, you can increase the amount of soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil in the marinade.
Feel free to add other vegetables such as bell peppers, carrots, or mushrooms for variety.
Serve the stir-fry over cooked rice, noodles, or quinoa for a complete meal.
