SPICY EGG MASALA WITH WHOLE WHEAT ROTI RECIPE

5/5

Spicy Egg Masala with Whole Wheat Roti is a delicious and nutritious Indian meal. It combines boiled eggs cooked in a flavorful and spicy masala gravy, served with healthy whole wheat rotis. The eggs provide a good source of protein, while the spices add a burst of flavor to the dish. Whole wheat rotis are a healthier alternative to regular rotis as they are high in fiber and nutrients. This dish can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner as a filling and satisfying meal.

INGREDIENTS

For Spicy Egg Masala:

  • 4 boiled eggs, peeled and cut into halves
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons oil

For Whole Wheat Roti:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • Water for kneading
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.

  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and slit green chilies. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.

  3. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.

  4. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes to let the spices blend together.

  5. Add the boiled eggs to the pan and gently coat them with the masala. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse into the eggs.

  6. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and remove from heat.

  7. For the Whole Wheat Roti, in a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, salt, and water. Knead well until you get a smooth and pliable dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for about 20 minutes.

  8. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them into thin rotis using a rolling pin.

  9. Heat a tawa or skillet over medium heat. Cook each roti on both sides until lightly browned, applying oil if desired.

  10. Serve the Spicy Egg Masala with warm Whole Wheat Roti.

TIPS

  1. You can adjust the spice levels according to your preference. Add more or fewer green chilies and red chili powder as per your taste.

  2. For a variation, you can add vegetables like bell peppers, peas, or potatoes to the egg masala for added nutrition and texture.

  3. Garnish the Spicy Egg Masala with freshly chopped coriander leaves to enhance the flavor.

  4. Serve the dish hot with whole wheat rotis or brown rice for a wholesome meal.

  5. To save time, you can boil the eggs in advance and store them in the refrigerator.

  6. For a lighter version, you can use less oil or substitute it with cooking spray.
