SPICY CHICKEN TACOS RECIPE

5/5

Spicy Chicken Tacos are a flavorful and protein-packed option for a satisfying meal. The chicken is marinated in a blend of spices, giving it a spicy and smoky flavor. The tacos are then filled with the cooked chicken and topped with fresh and crunchy vegetables, such as lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. The addition of Greek yogurt or sour cream provides a cool and creamy contrast to the spiciness of the chicken. These tacos can be enjoyed as a lunch or dinner option and are suitable for an Indian weight loss diet when made with whole wheat tortillas and lean chicken breast. They are a great way to incorporate bold flavors and a variety of textures into your meals.

INGREDIENTS

For the Chicken:

  • 500 grams boneless chicken breasts, cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra spiciness)
  • Salt to taste

For the Tacos:

  • 8 small whole wheat tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt or sour cream (optional for topping)
  • Lime wedges for serving

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the chili powder, cumin powder, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt. Mix well to make the spice blend for the chicken.

  2. Add the chicken pieces to the spice blend and toss until all the pieces are well coated. Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or non-stick pan over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken pieces and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and browned.

  4. While the chicken is cooking, warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave.

  5. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the pan and set aside.

  6. To assemble the tacos, place a spoonful of the cooked chicken onto a tortilla. Top it with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced onions, and chopped cilantro. You can also add a dollop of Greek yogurt or sour cream for added creaminess (optional).

  7. Squeeze a fresh lime wedge over the taco for a burst of citrus flavor.

  8. Repeat the process with the remaining tortillas and fillings.

TIPS

  1. Adjust the spice level according to your preference. Increase or decrease the amount of chili powder and cayenne pepper to make the tacos more or less spicy.
  2. For a healthier option, use whole wheat tortillas instead of regular flour tortillas to increase the fiber content.
  3. Feel free to customize the toppings according to your taste. You can add sliced avocados, shredded cheese, salsa, or any other toppings of your choice.
  4. If you prefer a milder flavor, you can reduce the amount of spices in the marinade.
  5. Use boneless, skinless chicken breasts for a leaner protein option. You can also use boneless chicken thighs if you prefer a juicier and more flavorful meat.
  6. Don’t overcook the chicken to ensure it remains tender and juicy.
  7. Serve the tacos immediately after assembling to enjoy them at their best.
  8. These tacos can be served as a standalone meal or accompanied by a side salad or roasted vegetables for a more complete meal.
  9. Leftover chicken can be stored in the refrigerator and used for meal prep or in other dishes such as salads or wraps.
  10. Experiment with different garnishes and condiments to personalize the flavors of your tacos.
