5/5

Spiced Roasted Chana Dal is a popular Indian snack known for its crunchy texture and savory flavors. These roasted split chickpeas are seasoned with a blend of spices, creating a satisfying and protein-packed snack option. The roasting process transforms the chana dal into a crispy and addictive treat that’s perfect for munching.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
  • 1 tablespoon oil (such as vegetable oil or olive oil)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: Chaat masala or amchur (dried mango powder) for extra flavor

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Wash the chana dal thoroughly under running water. Soak the chana dal in enough water for about 2-3 hours. Drain well after soaking.

  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the soaked and drained chana dal, oil, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, ground coriander, and salt. Toss well to coat the chana dal with the spices and oil.

  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Spread the spiced chana dal in a single layer on the baking sheet.

  5. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast the chana dal for about 25-30 minutes, or until they are crispy and golden brown. Stir the chana dal occasionally during roasting to ensure even cooking.

  6. Once the chana dal is roasted to your desired level of crispiness, remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the roasted chana dal cool completely.

  7. If desired, sprinkle chaat masala or amchur (dried mango powder) over the roasted chana dal for an extra burst of flavor.
