Salmon Croquettes

5/5

Salmon croquettes are flavorful and crispy seafood patties made with canned salmon, breadcrumbs, and various seasonings. These delicious croquettes can be served as a main dish or as a delightful appetizer. They are easy to prepare and a great way to enjoy the goodness of salmon in a different form.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) of canned salmon, drained and bones removed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (you can use panko or regular breadcrumbs)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper (red or green)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or your favorite seafood seasoning)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large mixing bowl, flake the canned salmon using a fork to break it into smaller pieces.

  2. Add the breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, bell pepper, egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the salmon.

  3. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. The mixture should hold together when pressed.

  4. Shape the mixture into small patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter, and place them on a plate or tray.

  5. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

  6. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the salmon croquettes to the pan, working in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding.

  7. Cook the croquettes for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  8. Remove the cooked croquettes from the pan and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

  9. Serve the Salmon Croquettes hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce or lemon wedges.

TIPS

  1. You can customize the croquettes by adding other ingredients like chopped herbs, minced garlic, or hot sauce for extra flavor.
  2. For a healthier version, you can bake the croquettes in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes or until they are cooked through and crispy.
  3. Serve the croquettes as a main course with a side salad or steamed vegetables, or as an appetizer for parties and gatherings.
  4. Leftover croquettes can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
