5/5
Paneer paratha is a popular Indian stuffed flatbread made with whole wheat flour and grated paneer. It is a delicious and nutritious option for a balanced meal. Paneer, rich in protein and calcium, adds a creamy and flavorful touch to the paratha.
INGREDIENTS
For the Paratha:
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup grated paneer (Indian cottage cheese)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Water, as needed for kneading the dough
- Ghee or cooking oil for cooking the parathas
For the Curd:
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- Chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
For the Paratha:
- In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, grated paneer, chopped onions, green chilies, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder (if using), and salt.
- Gradually add water and knead to form a soft and smooth dough. The paneer will release moisture, so adjust the water accordingly.
- Divide the dough into small equal-sized portions and shape them into balls.
- Take one dough ball and dust it with flour. Roll it out into a small disc using a rolling pin.
- Heat a tawa or griddle over medium heat. Place the rolled paratha on the hot tawa.
- Cook the paratha on one side until small bubbles start to appear. Flip it over and cook the other side.
- Apply some ghee or cooking oil on both sides and cook until the paratha is golden brown and cooked through.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls to make more parathas.
For the Curd:
- In a bowl, whisk the plain yogurt until smooth.
- Add salt and roasted cumin powder. Mix well.
- Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves.
TIPS
- You can add other finely chopped vegetables like capsicum, carrots, or spinach to the paratha dough for added nutrition and taste.
- Adjust the spiciness by adding or reducing the amount of green chilies and red chili powder according to your preference.
- You can also add a pinch of garam masala powder or chaat masala for an extra flavor boost.
- Serve the paneer paratha with a dollop of ghee on top for a richer taste.
- If you want a softer paratha, you can brush it with ghee or cooking oil after it is cooked.
- Enjoy the paratha with pickles or chutneys of your choice for added tanginess.
