MUTTON KHEEMA PUFFS RECIPE
Mutton Kheema Puffs are delicious and savory pastry snacks filled with spiced minced mutton (kheema) filling. The minced mutton is cooked with aromatic spices, onions, and other seasonings, which infuse the meat with a rich and flavorful taste. The mixture is then encased in a crispy and flaky puff pastry, creating a perfect combination of textures. These puffs make for a great appetizer or snack option and can be enjoyed with chutney or sauce.
INGREDIENTS
- 250 grams minced mutton (kheema)
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
- Puff pastry sheets (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
Add ginger-garlic paste and green chili (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes until the raw aroma disappears.
Add the minced mutton (kheema) and mix well. Cook until the meat is browned and cooked through.
Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Mix well to combine all the spices with the meat.
Cook for another 3-4 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.
Preheat the oven to the temperature specified on the puff pastry package.
Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut them into squares or rectangles of your desired size.
Spoon a generous amount of the cooled mutton kheema mixture onto one half of each puff pastry square.
Fold the other half of the puff pastry over the filling to form a triangle or rectangle shape. Press the edges firmly to seal.
Place the prepared puffs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the puffs with beaten egg for a shiny golden crust.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the puffs are golden brown and puffed up.
Remove from the oven and let the puffs cool slightly before serving.
TIPS
- Make sure the puff pastry sheets are thawed according to the package instructions before using them.
- You can use ready-made puff pastry sheets available in stores, or you can make your own puff pastry from scratch.
- Adjust the spice levels according to your taste preferences. You can increase or decrease the amount of red chili powder and green chili according to your desired spice level.
- You can add finely chopped vegetables like carrots, peas, or bell peppers to the filling for added texture and flavor.
- When filling the puff pastry, ensure that you don’t overfill them as it may cause the filling to leak out during baking.
- For a shiny and golden crust, brush the puffs with beaten egg before baking. This will also help in sealing the edges.
- Serve the Mutton Kheema Puffs hot with mint chutney, ketchup, or any dipping sauce of your choice.
