Mini corn dogs are a fun and delicious snack that everyone will love. They are a smaller version of the classic corn dogs, making them perfect for parties, game nights, or as a delightful treat for kids and adults alike.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or substitute with milk and vinegar)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 package (about 8-10) mini sausages or hot dogs
  • Wooden or metal skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Optional:

  • Ketchup, mustard, or any dipping sauce of your choice

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter or vegetable oil.

  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to coat the mini sausages.

  4. Insert a wooden or metal skewer into each mini sausage, leaving about half of the skewer exposed.

  5. Preheat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large, deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).

  6. Dip each mini sausage into the batter, coating it evenly. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  7. Carefully place the coated mini sausages into the hot oil and fry them in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Make sure to turn them occasionally for even frying.

  8. Use a slotted spoon to remove the mini corn dogs from the hot oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

  9. Serve the Mini Corn Dogs hot with ketchup, mustard, or any other dipping sauce of your choice.

  10. Enjoy these delicious and fun Mini Corn Dogs as a delightful snack or appetizer!

TIPS

  1. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by combining 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.

  2. Experiment with different types of sausages, such as beef, chicken, or veggie sausages, to cater to different dietary preferences.

  3. For a healthier version, you can bake the mini corn dogs in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes or until they are cooked through and golden brown.

  4. Serve the mini corn dogs with a side of fresh vegetables or a green salad to add more nutritional value to the meal.

  5. If you have leftover batter, you can use it to make corn fritters or hush puppies.

  6. These mini corn dogs can be prepared in advance and reheated in the oven before serving.
