EGG SANDWICHES RECIPE
Egg sandwiches are a quick and easy option for a healthy breakfast or snack. They are packed with protein from the hard-boiled eggs and provide energy from the whole wheat bread. This recipe adds a flavorful twist with the addition of onions, tomatoes, and a tangy mayo-mustard spread. These sandwiches are perfect for those following an Indian weight loss diet as they are nutritious, filling, and can be customized to individual preferences.
INGREDIENTS
- 4 slices of whole wheat bread
- 4 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and sliced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small tomato, sliced
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon mustard sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lettuce leaves (optional)
- Butter or margarine for spreading
INSTRUCTIONS
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and mustard sauce. Mix well to make a spread.
Take two slices of whole wheat bread and spread the mayo-mustard sauce mixture on one side of each slice.
Place the sliced hard-boiled eggs on one slice of bread.
Sprinkle the finely chopped onions over the eggs.
Place the tomato slices on top of the onions.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
If desired, you can also add lettuce leaves for added freshness.
Close the sandwich with the other slice of bread, mayo-mustard side down.
Repeat the process for the remaining slices of bread and ingredients.
Spread butter or margarine on the outer sides of the sandwiches.
Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat.
Place the prepared sandwiches on the pan and cook until they turn golden brown on both sides, flipping them occasionally.
Remove the sandwiches from the pan and let them cool for a minute.
Cut the sandwiches diagonally into halves or quarters.
TIPS
- Use whole wheat bread for added fiber and nutrients. You can also use multigrain or seeded bread for additional texture and flavor.
- Ensure that the hard-boiled eggs are cooled completely before slicing them for the sandwich.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of mayo-mustard spread according to your taste preference. You can increase or decrease the quantity as desired.
- You can add other vegetables like cucumber, bell peppers, or shredded carrots for added crunch and nutrition.
- If you prefer a spicy kick, you can add a pinch of red chili powder or a few drops of hot sauce to the mayo-mustard spread.
- You can also experiment with different types of spreads or sauces like avocado spread, hummus, or pesto for variation.
- If you want to reduce the fat content, you can use low-fat mayonnaise or skip the butter/margarine for spreading.
- Serve the egg sandwiches as a breakfast option, pack them for lunch, or enjoy them as a quick snack.
- Add a side of fresh fruits or a green salad to make it a complete and balanced meal.
- Feel free to customize the sandwiches according to your taste preferences by adding herbs, spices, or additional veggies.
- Store any leftover sandwiches in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can be enjoyed cold or slightly heated in a toaster or pan.
