DELICIOUS AND HEALTHY OATS IDLI RECIPE

5/5

Delicious and Healthy Oats Idli is a nutritious and flavorful breakfast dish made with oats and lentils. It offers a healthier twist to traditional idli by incorporating the goodness of oats, which are rich in fiber and provide numerous health benefits. The oats and lentils are ground to make a batter, which is then fermented and steamed to create soft and fluffy idlis. Oats Idli is low in fat, gluten-free, and packed with protein and complex carbohydrates, making it a perfect option for a wholesome breakfast. It is not only delicious but also keeps you feeling satisfied and energized throughout the morning.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup split black gram (urad dal)
  • 1/4 cup flattened rice (poha)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds (methi seeds)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for soaking and grinding
  • Cooking oil or ghee for greasing the idli molds

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a bowl, combine the oats, split black gram, flattened rice, and fenugreek seeds. Rinse them well under running water and soak them together for about 4-6 hours.
  2. After soaking, drain the water and transfer the mixture to a blender. Grind them to a smooth batter by adding water as needed. The consistency should be slightly thicker than regular dosa batter.
  3. Transfer the batter to a large bowl and add salt. Mix well and let it ferment overnight or for at least 6-8 hours in a warm place. The fermentation process will make the idlis soft and fluffy.
  4. Once the batter is fermented, grease the idli molds with oil or ghee. Pour the batter into each mold, filling them to about 3/4th of the mold’s capacity.
  5. Steam the idlis in a steamer for about 10-12 minutes or until they are cooked through. Insert a toothpick or knife into an idli to check if it comes out clean, indicating that the idlis are done.
  6. Remove the idlis from the steamer and let them cool slightly. Then, gently remove them from the molds using a spoon or knife.
  7. Serve the delicious and healthy oats idlis hot with sambar, coconut chutney, or any other accompaniments of your choice.
