Cranberry Juice (unsweetened)

5/5

Cranberry juice is made by extracting the juice from cranberries, which are known for their tartness. The juice has a vibrant red color and a tangy, slightly sour taste. It can be enjoyed on its own as a refreshing beverage or used as an ingredient in cocktails, smoothies, or other culinary creations. Cranberry juice is often available in both sweetened and unsweetened varieties, with the unsweetened version being lower in sugar.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 4 cups water

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Rinse the fresh cranberries thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris.
  2. Place the cranberries in a medium-sized pot and add water.
  3. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat.
  4. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer the cranberries for about 15 minutes, or until they have softened and burst.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and let the cranberry mixture cool for a few minutes.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  7. Place a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a large bowl or pitcher.
  8. Pour the blended cranberry mixture into the strainer, allowing the juice to separate from the pulp. Use the back of a spoon to press down and extract as much juice as possible.
  9. Discard the pulp and transfer the strained cranberry juice to a glass container.
  10. Let the cranberry juice cool completely before refrigerating.
  11. Refrigerate the cranberry juice for at least 1 hour to chill before serving.
  12. Serve the homemade cranberry juice chilled and enjoy.

TIPS

  1. Choose 100% pure cranberry juice or make your own at home by blending fresh cranberries and straining the juice.
  2. Look for cranberry juice that is free of added sugars or artificial sweeteners. Read the label to ensure you are purchasing a product that contains only cranberries or cranberry juice concentrate.
  3. If you find the taste of cranberry juice too tart, you can dilute it with water or mix it with other juices like apple or orange juice for a milder flavor.
  4. Enjoy cranberry juice as part of a balanced diet. It can be consumed in moderation as a healthy beverage option.
  5. It’s important to note that cranberry juice should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment. If you have specific health concerns or conditions, consult with a healthcare professional.

NUTRITION VALUE

Cranberry juice is valued for its potential health benefits. Cranberries are rich in antioxidants, particularly proanthocyanidins, which may have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Drinking cranberry juice is commonly associated with promoting urinary tract health and helping to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is also a good source of vitamins C and E, as well as various minerals.
