CHICKEN SEEKH KABAB RECIPE
Chicken Seekh Kebab is a popular Indian appetizer made with ground chicken and a blend of aromatic spices. These kebabs are typically grilled, which gives them a smoky and charred flavor. In this recipe, the ground chicken is mixed with onion, green chilies, cilantro, ginger-garlic paste, and a combination of spices. The kebabs are then shaped around skewers and cooked until they are juicy, tender, and golden brown. Chicken Seekh Kebabs are a great option for Indian weight loss diets as they are low in calories and high in protein. They can be served as an appetizer, added to wraps or salads, or enjoyed as a main course with a side of vegetables.
INGREDIENTS
- 500 grams ground chicken
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon besan (gram flour)
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Cooking oil for grilling
INSTRUCTIONS
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, chopped onion, green chilies, fresh cilantro, ginger-garlic paste, besan, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
Using your hands, knead the mixture for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and well combined. This will help in binding the ingredients together.
Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a cylindrical kebab around a skewer. Repeat this process with the remaining mixture. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 15 minutes beforehand to prevent them from burning.
Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium heat. Lightly brush the surface with cooking oil to prevent the kebabs from sticking.
Place the chicken seekh kebabs on the grill or grill pan. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning them occasionally, until the kebabs are cooked through and evenly browned.
Once cooked, remove the chicken seekh kebabs from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes.
Serve the Chicken Seekh Kebabs hot with mint chutney or yogurt dip.
TIPS
- For a healthier version, you can also bake the Chicken Seekh Kebabs in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes or until cooked through.
- Customize the spice level according to your preference by adjusting the amount of green chilies and red chili powder.
- If you prefer a smoother texture, you can blend the onion, green chilies, and cilantro into a paste before adding them to the ground chicken mixture.
- Serve the Chicken Seekh Kebabs with a squeeze of lemon juice and a sprinkle of chaat masala for extra flavor.
- To prevent the kebabs from sticking to the grill, make sure to lightly oil the surface before placing them on it.
- Soaking wooden skewers in water before grilling helps to prevent them from burning.
- These kebabs can also be cooked on a stovetop using a non-stick pan or under a broiler in the oven.
- If you don’t have access to a grill, you can also cook the kebabs on a stovetop tawa or griddle pan.
