CHICKEN SATAY RECIPE
Chicken Satay is a popular Indonesian dish consisting of marinated and grilled chicken skewers, served with a flavorful peanut sauce. The chicken is marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, lemon juice, honey, peanut butter, and various spices, which impart a deliciously tangy and aromatic flavor. The skewers are then grilled until they are tender, juicy, and slightly charred, giving them a smoky taste. The peanut sauce adds a creamy and nutty element that complements the chicken perfectly. This dish is not only tasty but also a great option for those following an Indian weight loss diet.
INGREDIENTS
- 500 grams boneless chicken breasts, cut into thin strips
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- Salt to taste
- Bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
For the Peanut Sauce:
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
- Water (as needed to adjust consistency)
INSTRUCTIONS
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, lemon juice, honey, peanut butter, curry powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, garlic powder, ginger powder, and salt. Mix well to form a marinade.
Add the chicken strips to the marinade and coat them well. Let the chicken marinate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight in the refrigerator.
Preheat the grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
Thread the marinated chicken strips onto soaked bamboo skewers.
Grill the chicken skewers for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and slightly charred. Rotate the skewers occasionally for even cooking.
While the chicken is grilling, prepare the peanut sauce. In a small saucepan, combine peanut butter, soy sauce, lemon juice, honey, and red chili flakes (if using). Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring continuously until smooth and well combined. If the sauce is too thick, add water gradually to achieve the desired consistency. Remove from heat.
Once the chicken skewers are cooked, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.
Serve the Chicken Satay skewers with the prepared peanut sauce on the side.
TIPS
- You can also use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts for more flavor and juiciness.
- If using wooden skewers, make sure to soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before grilling to prevent them from burning.
- If you don’t have a grill, you can cook the chicken skewers on a grill pan or in the oven under the broiler.
- Customize the spice level by adjusting the amount of red chili flakes in the peanut sauce.
- You can serve the Chicken Satay with a side of cucumber slices or a fresh salad for a refreshing contrast.
- For added freshness and flavor, squeeze some lime juice over the grilled chicken skewers before serving.
- Feel free to garnish the Chicken Satay with chopped peanuts and fresh cilantro for an extra touch of texture and aroma.
