Bread pakora Recipe
5/5
Bread Pakora is a popular Indian snack made by deep-frying bread slices coated in a spiced gram flour batter. It is a crispy and flavorful snack that is enjoyed by people of all ages. The bread slices are filled with a savory potato filling, adding a delicious taste and texture to the pakoras. Bread Pakoras are commonly served with chutney or ketchup and are perfect for tea-time or as a party appetizer.
INGREDIENTS
- 8 slices of bread
- 2 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1/2 cup gram flour (besan)
- 2 tablespoons rice flour
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
- Oil for deep frying
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a bowl, mix the mashed potatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, chaat masala, and salt. This is the filling for the bread pakoras.
- Take a slice of bread and spread a generous amount of the potato filling on one side. Cover it with another slice of bread to make a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining bread slices and filling.
- Cut each sandwich into halves or quarters as desired.
- In a separate bowl, prepare the batter by combining gram flour, rice flour, salt, and water. The batter should be thick enough to coat the bread slices.
- Heat oil in a deep pan or kadhai over medium heat.
- Dip each bread sandwich into the batter, making sure to coat it evenly on all sides.
- Gently place the coated bread pakoras into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
- Remove the fried pakoras from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with chutney or ketchup.
TIPS
- Use slightly stale bread for better texture. Fresh bread may become too soft when soaked in the batter.
- Adjust the spice levels in the potato filling and batter according to your taste preferences.
- Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying the pakoras to ensure they turn out crispy.
- Serve the Bread Pakoras immediately for the best taste and texture.
- You can experiment with different fillings, such as paneer or cheese, to add variation to the pakoras.
