Beetroot Paratha is a colorful and nutritious Indian flatbread made with grated beetroot and whole wheat flour. The grated beetroot is mixed with the flour and kneaded into a soft dough along with spices and herbs. The dough is then rolled into flat discs and cooked on a griddle until golden and cooked through. Beetroot Paratha is a delicious and visually appealing way to incorporate beetroots into your diet. It can be served with yogurt, pickle, or any side dish of your choice for a wholesome and flavorful meal.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup grated beetroot
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Water as needed
  • Ghee or oil for cooking

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, grated beetroot, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, garam masala (if using), salt, and oil. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add water and knead the mixture into a soft dough. Add water as needed to achieve the desired consistency. Let the dough rest for 15-20 minutes to allow it to become more pliable.
  3. Divide the dough into equal-sized portions and shape them into balls.
  4. Take one dough ball and flatten it with your hands. Dust it with some flour and roll it out into a circular disc of medium thickness.
  5. Heat a griddle or tawa over medium heat. Once hot, place the rolled paratha on it.
  6. Cook one side for a minute until small bubbles start to form on the surface. Flip the paratha and cook the other side.
  7. Apply ghee or oil on both sides and cook until the paratha turns golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove the cooked paratha from the griddle and repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
  9. Serve the Beetroot Parathas hot with yogurt, pickle, or any side dish of your choice.
