INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound (450 grams) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium if preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece ginger, grated
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup snap peas or sugar snap peas
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked brown rice (for serving)
  • Optional garnish: chopped green onions and sesame seeds

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Add the beef slices to the marinade and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Heat one tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef slices and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the sliced onion, bell pepper, carrot, broccoli, and snap peas to the skillet. Stir-fry for 4-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are crisp-tender.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss it with the vegetables. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve the beef stir-fry over cooked brown rice. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
  7. Enjoy your Beef Stir-Fry with Brown Rice

TIPS

  1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
  2. Feel free to add other vegetables of your choice, such as mushrooms, zucchini, or baby corn.
  3. Adjust the seasoning and sauces according to your taste preferences.
  4. For a spicier stir-fry, add red pepper flakes or chili sauce.
  5. Cook the vegetables until they are still slightly crisp for a vibrant texture.
  6. If you prefer a vegetarian or vegan option, you can substitute the beef with tofu, tempeh, or plant-based meat alternatives.
  7. Use leftover cooked brown rice or prepare it ahead of time to save on cooking time.
  8. Experiment with different herbs and spices to add more flavor to your stir-fry, such as cilantro, basil, or cumin.
  9. Customize the dish by adding your favorite stir-fry sauce or additional seasonings.
  10. Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad to increase the nutrient content of the meal.
