Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry

5/5

Beef and broccoli stir-fry is a classic Chinese dish that features tender slices of beef and crisp broccoli florets tossed in a flavorful sauce. This quick and easy stir-fry is perfect for a weeknight meal and can be served with steamed rice or noodles. The combination of savory beef, vibrant broccoli, and aromatic sauce creates a delicious and satisfying dish.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound (450 grams) beef steak (such as sirloin or flank steak), thinly sliced
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening the sauce)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and cornstarch (if using) until well combined. Set aside.

  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

  3. Add the beef slices to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until they become bright green and slightly tender.

  5. Return the beef to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour in the sauce mixture and stir to coat the beef and broccoli evenly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

  6. If the sauce is too thin, you can mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to make a slurry and add it to the skillet. Stir well and cook for an additional minute until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.

  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

  9. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

TIPS

  1. For tender beef, slice it against the grain into thin strips.
  2. You can marinate the beef slices in a mixture of soy sauce, ginger, and garlic for added flavor, but it’s optional.
  3. Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or mushrooms to the stir-fry for extra color and texture.
  4. Adjust the seasoning and sauce ingredients according to your taste preferences.
  5. Be careful not to overcook the broccoli to maintain its vibrant green color and slight crispness.
  6. To make the dish spicy, you can add red pepper flakes or chili paste to the sauce.
  7. Add a drizzle of sesame oil at the end for an extra nutty flavor.
  8. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
