Baked Masala Papad Rolls are a healthier version of the popular fried snack. They are filled with a delicious mixture of potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and spices, providing a burst of flavors and textures. These rolls are baked until crispy, making them a nutritious and guilt-free option. They are also a great choice for Indian weight loss diets as they are low in calories and high in fiber.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 papads
  • 1/2 cup boiled and mashed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped cucumber
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooking spray or oil for greasing

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix together mashed potatoes, onions, tomatoes, cucumber, coriander leaves, green chili (if using), chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, and salt. This will be the filling for the papad rolls.
  3. Take one papad at a time and dip it in water for a few seconds to make it pliable.
  4. Place a spoonful of the filling mixture in the center of the papad and roll it tightly, sealing the edges.
  5. Repeat the process with the remaining papads and filling.
  6. Grease a baking tray with cooking spray or oil and place the rolled papads on it.
  7. Bake the papad rolls in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until they turn crispy and golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
  9. Serve the baked masala papad rolls as a snack or appetizer with chutney or dip of your choice.

TIPS

  1. Make sure the papads are completely dry before filling them to prevent them from becoming soggy.
  2. You can customize the filling by adding your favorite vegetables or spices.
  3. If you don’t have an oven, you can also cook the papad rolls on a stovetop griddle or tawa until they turn crispy.
  4. Serve the baked masala papad rolls immediately after baking to enjoy their crispiness.
  5. Pair them with a tangy tamarind chutney or mint yogurt dip for added flavor.
