5/5

Aloo Tikki is a popular North Indian snack made with mashed potatoes and a blend of spices. The mixture is shaped into patties and shallow-fried until they become golden brown and crispy on the outside. Aloo Tikki is typically served with various chutneys or sauces, making it a delicious and satisfying snack.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, bread crumbs, chopped onions, green chilies, grated ginger, cumin powder, red chili powder, garam masala, chopped coriander leaves, and salt. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
  2. Divide the mixture into equal-sized portions and shape them into round or flattened tikkis.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Carefully place the aloo tikkis in the hot oil and fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides. Flip them gently to ensure even cooking.
  5. Once cooked, remove the tikkis from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with absorbent paper to remove excess oil.
  6. Serve the aloo tikkis hot with mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or yogurt.

TIPS

  • Use starchy potatoes like russet or Idaho potatoes for the best texture.
  • Ensure that the potatoes are boiled until they are completely cooked and can be easily mashed.
  • Adding bread crumbs helps bind the mixture and gives a crispy texture to the tikkis. You can make bread crumbs by grinding fresh bread in a food processor or blender.
  • Adjust the spice levels according to your taste preferences by adding more or less chili powder and green chilies.
  • You can customize the tikkis by adding grated cheese, chopped vegetables, or spices of your choice.
  • Serve the tikkis immediately for the best taste and texture. They can be enjoyed as is or used to make delicious burgers or sandwiches.
  • Leftover tikkis can be refrigerated and reheated in a toaster, oven, or pan before serving.
