Aloo matar poha Recipe
5/5
Aloo Matar Poha is a popular Indian breakfast dish made with flattened rice (poha), potatoes, and green peas. It is a flavorful and satisfying dish that combines the softness of poha with the crunch of potatoes and the sweetness of green peas. The spices add a subtle warmth and aroma to the dish, making it a perfect start to the day.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup flattened rice (poha)
- 2 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped for garnish
- Lemon wedges for serving
- Oil for cooking
INSTRUCTIONS
- Rinse the flattened rice (poha) under running water for a few seconds. Drain well and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Let them crackle.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies to the pan. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add diced potatoes and green peas to the pan. Mix well and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the potatoes are partially cooked.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder (if using), cumin powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the vegetables evenly with the spices.
- Cover the pan and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the potatoes are fully cooked and tender.
- Add the rinsed flattened rice (poha) to the pan. Gently mix everything together, ensuring that the poha is well combined with the vegetables and spices.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes on low heat until the poha is heated through.
- Remove from heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot Aloo Matar Poha with lemon wedges on the side.
TIPS
- Use thick or medium-sized poha for best results. Avoid using thin poha as it may become mushy.
- Rinse the poha gently under running water and allow it to drain well to avoid it becoming soggy.
- Adjust the spice levels according to your taste preferences. Add more or less chili powder and green chilies as per your spice tolerance.
- You can add roasted peanuts or cashews for added crunch and flavor.
- Squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the Aloo Matar Poha just before serving for a tangy kick.
- Serve the poha hot as it tends to become dry and lose its texture when it cools down.
