Air-Fried Tofu Nuggets are a healthier and equally delicious alternative to traditional deep-fried chicken nuggets. These crispy, golden nuggets are made from tofu, seasoned to perfection, and air-fried to create a satisfying crunch. They’re perfect for dipping in your favorite sauces and make for a wholesome, plant-based snack or meal. With less oil and no deep-frying, these tofu nuggets are a guilt-free option for both kids and adults.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Press the extra-firm tofu to remove excess moisture. You can use a tofu press or wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a weight on top to press it. Press for about 15-30 minutes.
- After pressing, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes or nuggets.
- In one shallow dish, place all-purpose flour or your chosen gluten-free alternative.
- In another shallow dish, pour the plant-based milk.
- In a third shallow dish, combine bread crumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create a seasoned breadcrumb mixture.
- To coat the tofu nuggets, first dip each nugget into the flour, shaking off any excess.
- Next, dip the floured nugget into the plant-based milk.
- Finally, coat the nugget in the seasoned breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Press the breadcrumbs onto the tofu to adhere.
- Place the coated tofu nuggets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- If desired, lightly spray the nuggets with olive oil cooking spray. This helps them become crispy in the air fryer.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Arrange the tofu nuggets in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
- Air fry the nuggets for about 15-20 minutes, flipping them over halfway through cooking, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Keep a close eye on the nuggets during the last few minutes of air frying to prevent overcooking.
- Once the tofu nuggets are done, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauces.
TIPS
- Customize the seasoning by using your favorite spices and herbs for unique flavors.
- You can also marinate the tofu cubes in your choice of sauce or spices for added flavor before coating and air frying.
- Ensure that the tofu nuggets are placed in a single layer in the air fryer basket for even cooking.
