The dish is elevated by a flavorful soy-based sauce that ties all the elements together, creating a well-rounded and satisfying meal.

INGREDIENTS

  • 14 oz (400g) firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 cups snow peas, ends trimmed
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a bowl, combine the cubed tofu with cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Toss gently to coat the tofu pieces.

  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

  3. Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and cook until they are golden and crispy on all sides. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed. Sauté minced garlic and grated ginger for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  5. Add sliced onion and red bell pepper to the skillet. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they start to soften.

  6. Toss in the snow peas and continue to stir-fry for an additional 2 minutes.

  7. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil.

  8. Return the cooked tofu to the skillet and pour the sauce over the tofu and vegetables. Mix well to coat everything evenly.

  9. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the tofu and vegetables are heated through and coated with the sauce.

Assembling the Dish:

  1. Serve the Stir-Fried Tofu with Snow Peas over cooked rice or noodles.

  2. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for added flavor and visual appeal.

TIPS

  • For extra heat, add red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha sauce to the sauce mixture.

  • Customize the stir-fry by adding other vegetables, such as mushrooms, baby corn, or water chestnuts.

  • Feel free to substitute the snow peas with snap peas or green beans if preferred.
