Spicy BBQ Chicken Wings

5/5

Spicy BBQ chicken wings are a crowd-pleasing appetizer or main dish that packs a flavorful punch. The wings are marinated in a spicy and tangy BBQ sauce, then grilled or baked to perfection. They are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a spicy and smoky flavor that will have everyone reaching for more. This recipe is perfect for game day, parties, or any casual gathering where you want to serve up some delicious finger food.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 pounds chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce (spicy variety)
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust according to your spice preference)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust according to your spice preference)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil (for grilling or baking)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, combine the BBQ sauce, hot sauce, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey or maple syrup, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix well to make the marinade.

  2. Add the chicken wings to the marinade and toss until they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the wings marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight for maximum flavor.

  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  4. If grilling: Grease the grill grates with some cooking oil to prevent sticking. Place the marinated wings on the grill and cook for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are cooked through and charred on the outside. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).

  5. If baking: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the wings are golden brown and crispy.

  6. Remove the wings from the grill or oven and let them rest for a few minutes.

  7. Serve the spicy BBQ chicken wings hot with your favorite dipping sauce or alongside some celery sticks and ranch dressing. Enjoy!

TIPS

  1. Adjust the amount of hot sauce and cayenne pepper according to your spice tolerance. Add more for extra heat or reduce for milder wings.
  2. If you prefer a smokier flavor, you can add a few drops of liquid smoke to the marinade.
  3. For even more flavor, you can sprinkle some additional smoked paprika or garlic powder on the wings before grilling or baking.
  4. If grilling, make sure to preheat the grill to prevent sticking and to achieve a nice charred exterior on the wings.
  5. Serve the wings immediately for maximum crispiness. They can be reheated in the oven or on the grill if needed.
