5/5

Paneer Bhurji is a popular Indian dish made with crumbled paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cooked with a mix of spices, onions, tomatoes, and aromatic herbs. It is a quick and flavorful vegetarian option that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Paneer Bhurji is often served with roti, paratha, or bread and can also be used as a filling in wraps or sandwiches.

INGREDIENTS

  • 200 grams paneer (Indian cottage cheese), crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon oil or ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro (coriander leaves) for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add the chopped onion and green chili. Sauté until the onion turns golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
  5. Add the chopped tomato and cook until it becomes soft and mushy.
  6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Crumble the paneer and add it to the pan. Mix gently to coat the paneer with the spices.
  8. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the paneer is heated through and well combined with the spices.
  9. Sprinkle garam masala and mix well.
  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
  11. Serve hot with roti (Indian bread), paratha, or as a filling in sandwiches.

TIPS

  • Adjust the spices according to your taste preference. You can increase or decrease the amount of red chili powder and green chili to make it more or less spicy.
  • You can add other vegetables like bell peppers, peas, or spinach to the bhurji for added flavor and nutrition.
  • To make it creamier, you can add a tablespoon of fresh cream or yogurt towards the end of cooking.
  • For a vegan version, you can substitute paneer with crumbled tofu or mashed cooked chickpeas.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro leaves for added freshness and flavor.
